Creative Drama Classes 2010
Creative Drama Classes run by Thespianage are designed to teach theatre skills and experience. The tutor is Robyn Donnelly (BSc, DipDrama). Many who have been to these classes have subsequently appeared in, stage-managed, written and directed for Mairangi Players and other theatre groups.
There are five classes to cater for differing maturity and abilities, running for nine weeks each term. The age range of the classes is 6 to 18 years.
Term dates for 2010 are:
Term 1: Tuesday 9 February to Thursday 1 April
Term 2: Tuesday 27 April to Thursday 24 June
Term 3: Tuesday 20 July to Thursday 16 September Term 4: Tuesday 12 October to Thursday 9 December
The classes are taught from a creative, developmental aspect. We work a lot on teamwork, stimulating the imagination, improvisation, releasing inhibitions, harnessing this energy and focussing it towards creativity.
Through this process, characters and stories are created which are worked towards a presentable scenario, skit or play at the end of term, to be performed in the last class of the term. This also teaches stagecraft and performance skills.
Later on, we move towards already scripted works, after having come to terms with characterisation and character background. There is also some theatre terminology and "who's who" in the production process thrown in.
We anticipate the classes to be both constructive and enjoyable. There will be room for play, but there is the need also for work to benefit from the classes. "There ain't no such thing as a free lunch!"
