The Talented Mr Ripley

Talented Mr Ripley posterThe Talented Mr Ripley by Phyllis Nagy. Based on the novels by Patricia Highsmith. Directed by Karl Buckley.

Performed from October 30 to November 8, 2003 at the Little Theatre, Birkenhead.

The stage adaptation of The Talented Mr Ripley relies much more heavily on the characters than the beautiful scenery of the film version. It tells the story of Tom Ripley, a psychopathic fraud and murderer, who is recognised in a case of mistaken identity by wealthy socialites Herbert and Emily Greenleaf.

They send Tom to a small Italian resort to bring home their son, Richard. Tom takes the opportunity, and their money, and meets Richard and his fiance in Italy. Slowly, Tom Ripley falls in love with Richard's lifestyle and can't help but becoming more and more entwined in his life.
