George Orwell's 1984
From 1 - 16 April, Mairangi Players presents...
George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four
adapted for the stage by Alan Lyddiard, directed by Syd Mannion.
1984 is a powerful examination of what might have been – and may still be. It is a work of fiction, not prophesy. It is an extrapolation of the history and political philosophies of the early twentieth century - Francisco Franco’s “New State”, Hitler’s Third Reich and Leninist and Stalinist Communist Russia. This will be a complex multi-media production merging live performance with pre-recorded video and audio.
Syd Mannion is a familiar face both on and off stage in Auckland theatre for many years. As an actor and director he has been involved in a wide range of productions that include comedy, drama, multimedia, music and dance. Among his directing credits are “Shadowlands”, “Terra Nova”, “The Woman in Black”, “Improbable Fiction” (Dolphin Theatre), “Bouncers and Shakers” (TheatreWorks/ Titirangi Theatre) and “Serial Killers” (Titirangi Theatre).
